SPECIAL LAND TRAINING






 

As overhead athletes competing in a horizontal position, swimmers require a different approach to land training to that of standard athletic needs. Our tried and tested system has helped develop Olympics medalists and supported countless other junior and senior swimmers to achieve outstanding physical performance gains. 

With over a decade of delivering this work in-person from our base in Plymouth, UK we have evolved an online monthly programme to suit the needs of clubs all over the world. You can now access our monthly Swimmers' Special Land Training Pathways on our Swim Revolution App.

Swimmers' Special Land Training - GOLD Pathway 

1. SwimCore - This is the foundation on which we build further development. Rooted in Callisthenics, Pilates and other bodyweight exercises we develop the outstanding level of trunk strength and proximal joint control that a swimmer needs. Strength and stability tests are included as are key mobility drills for shoulders, spine and hips. 

 

2. Speed - This is where we develop speed endurance and further develop the 'lactate shuttle' energy system that swimmers require. Minimal equipment is required: resistance bands and kettlebells are the basis for this work. Progress outcome measures are included. 

 

3. Power - Here we utilise 'heavy' moves with standard gym equipment such as plates and dumbbells but in body positions and joint angles that a swimmer is required to develop power in. These positions and angles are different for swimming compared to standard athletic training. Progress outcome measures are included. 

 

Also included in the package are 2 x 30 minute zoom mentor meetings per month with Head Land Coach Paris Payne to guide you through the integration and optimisation of the program for your specific club needs.

How do we know it works? We have worked with elite swimmers for over 10 years, including champs Rüta Meilutytė, Ben Proud and Laura Stephens. We have crafted an approach to land training that really works. We support swimmers to work in the gym to complement their work in the pool: avoiding injury and getting results on the podium. It’s based on years of learning and developing to achieve success.
